FIRST ENGLISH EDITION 2 Volumes, Complete. 8vo. hardbacks, rebacked in green cloth, with original olive green spines lain on, decorative gilt, blind-stamped decoration to boards. Original yellow endpapers with green cloth tape reinforcing. iv, 464pp. and iv, 464pp. Each volume with engraved frontispiece (Volume I with a tissue guard), 10 further engraved plates to Volume I and 8 to Volume II. Modern bookplate to front pastedown and ink signature and date (1853) to ffep of both volumes. Heavy foxing and staining to plates (please see photo for average example) and some light foxing and handling marks, occasionally heavy (especially prelims), throughout. Quite a few thumb-size pieces missing from foredges and corners. Original spines have some loss at tops and bases, with some rubbing (please see photos). Original boards somewhat mottles with rubbing to edges, particularly corners.
